The Ultimate Goal of God’s Economy—the New Jerusalem

What is the ultimate goal of God’s eternal economy? Such a marvelous plan surely merits an equally marvelous consummation. The conclusion of the Bible reveals that the goal and ultimate consummation of God’s economy is the New Jerusalem (Revelation 21—22). The New Jerusalem is not the heaven envisioned by most people. It is a sign (Revelation 1:1), a symbol with spiritual significance, denoting the totality of God’s people throughout the ages who have been redeemed, transformed, and glorified. The New Jerusalem is the complete mingling of God with man and the corporate expression of God, radiating for eternity God’s glory in humanity.
