The Goal of God’s Economy

Eating and Drinking Christ—the Tree of Life and the River of Water of Life Two of the outstanding features of the New Jerusalem are the river of water of life and the tree of life (Revelation 22:1-2). These symbols indicate that God Himself in Christ as the Spirit will be the full enjoyment of His redeemed people. For eternity, we will serve Him by eating and drinking Him. There is no indication in this picture that God needs us to do anything for Him; He has done everything already. Our service to Him is simply to continually take Him into our being as our food and drink.
