The Steps of God’s Economy

Ascension

Forty days after Christ resurrected, He ascended to the heavens (Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9). Christ’s ascension inaugurated Him into His office as Lord of all (Acts 2:36). Of course, God has always reigned as the Lord of all. Nevertheless, through His ascension and following His glorification, the man Jesus was officially made the Head of all things (Ephesians 1:22). As a glorified man, He is now at the right hand of God (Hebrews 1:3), administrating the entire universe for the carrying out of God’s economy.

Finally, in ascension Christ poured out the Spirit on the believers for the producing of the church. On the evening of the Lord’s resurrection, the disciples received the Holy Spirit as the breath of life for their spiritual existence (John 20:22). But fifty days later, on the day of Pentecost, the ascended Christ sent the Spirit upon the disciples as a rushing violent wind for their work and move (Acts 2:2-4). In pouring out the Spirit upon the believers, the Lord baptized them into His Body (Acts 1:5).
